Basque Food
Bakersfield has a unique Basque community with a very fulfilling dining experience. Head down to “Old Town Kern” and you will find many of the towns Basque restaurants. These restaurants were started by some of the towns founding families and they are rich in history. One thing is for sure you will not leave hungry!
Bakersfield Condors Hockey
Head down to the Rabobank Arena for some family fun. The Condors are Bakersfield only professional sports team. They are members of the AHL (American Hockey League) and a feeder team for the Edmonton Oilers of the NHL. The Condors are true athletes on the ice!
Friday Night Lights (High School Football)
The Kern High School District is one of the largest districts in the country. It is no surprise that Bakersfield has a deep history in high school football, many greats have played their high school years in Bakersfield building it into what it is today. These greats include Brock Marion, Michael Stewart, David Carr, Derek Carr, and Joey Porter to name just a few. You never know you may be getting a preview of your favorite NFL teams future Quarterback!
Whitewater Rafting
Bakersfield is home to the Kern river and some very challenging rapids. Head up to Kernville and take a guided tour. There is something for everybody from calm and scenic class I and class II to the most challenging class V+. Just a warning never enter the river without a guide as it is very dangerous.

Buck Owens Crystal Palace
Buck Owens Crystal Palace is a landmark for country music fans. Legendary Buck Owens called Bakersfield California home and even wrote a song with Dwight Yoakam called “The Streets of Bakersfield” Do not miss the Sunday Brunch, it’s the best in town!
Auto Racing
Bakersfield is home to a few auto racing venues. Wether it’s the dirt track (Bakersfield Speedway), asphalt oval (Kern Raceway) or the drag strip at Famoso; you will always find some great competitive racing on the weekends. Kevin Harvick of NASCAR is from Bakersfield California and still returns for special event races.

Take a Ride on the Bike Path
Bakersfield has a beautiful bike path that follows the river east for about 10.5 miles from California State University Bakersfield. Enjoy this ride when the weather is nice during the spring and fall seasons.
Jerry’s Pizza
This is not just a pizza joint, this is one of the best spots to check out local bands. The history runs deep here, and almost everyone has memories of seeing their favorite local bands rock out on stage. Check out their facebook page for the schedule.
The Padre Hotel
The Padre hotel is part nightclub, part hotel. A historic landmark that was restored to its glory in the early 2000’s. This is the place to be for Bakersfield nightlife.
VillageFest
This is Bakersfield’s premier tasting event. Food from local restaurants, craft beer and wine, and great music. This event is held in the fall when the weather is ideal. If you are new to town this would be a great event to sample the best of Bakersfield
