Saint Timothy Catholic Church – A Number of Active Retreats Ongoing
As Catholics, the Sacraments are at the heart of this congregation’s faith, as the unique gifts that Christ has given us to sustain our relationship with Him. Mass is held literally every single day at Saint Timothy’s Catholic church in Mesa, to appeal to busy people stuck in a difficult work schedule. Saint Timothy’s welcomes non-Catholics to receive their first Holy Communion within their walls. They’re open, honest, welcoming, and have traditional views and values that they hold very near and dear to their hearts. Much of the congregation is Hispanic and they have both Spanish and English sermons to reach the ears and minds of everybody in the Mesa area. With a heavy online presence, an impressive website, and a Youtube channel, anyone unable to actually go to the church service can enjoy sermons remotely. Saint Timothy Catholic Church also has a private daycare and school for preschoolers through grade 8!
New Beginnings Christian Church – Fast Growing Congregation
The New Beginnings chapel has a less traditional approach to worship. Their tagline is “Where it’s not about membership – it’s about relationships.” They’re a bible-based non-denominational Christian church in Mesa, Arizona. At New Beginnings, they aim to rebuild hope where it’s been damaged or lost by working with those spiritually, mentally, emotionally, or physically in need. You can check out their beliefs as they’re plainly listed right on the website. They have a number of ongoing missions and outreach programs and it’s clear that trying to form a relationship with the community, no matter how rich or poor, is a priority for this congregation.
Broadway Christian Church – Heavy Music Worship
Broadway Christian Church, or BCC, loves to enjoy worship through music. With an obvious goal to have something for everyone and every religion, they have two types of service. “Our classic services sing hymns and classic spiritual songs accompanied by piano, guitars and drums. In the modern service, we utilize a full band with guitars, keyboards and drums, and we sing modern songs. The message is the same at each service.” Trying to actively avoid boring scripture reading that can put people to sleep, BCC prides themselves on having exciting and cooperative worship through song interwoven throughout their sermon hour. BCC has a really impressive web presence and makes navigating their website a fun and interactive experience as they understand technology is a good way to reach the future generation of devout believers. They even have an application for your smartphone!
City of Grace, Mesa Campus – Nondenominational Church Where Everyone Belongs
Currently led by husband and wife pastors Terry and Judith Crist, the fifth generation pastors have lead and built the nondenominational Church in Mesa for over 30 years. Worship in person on Sundays at 10am, bring the kids for the kids program for newborns through fifth grade, or watch online. City of Grace helps people find a Connect Group, Alpha Course, or Serve Team to enjoy one another’s company.
Calvary Baptist Church – Bible Based Evangelism
Calvary Baptist Church is taylormade for the modern Baptist. Though they’re an independent Baptist church in Mesa, The Arizona Association of Regular Baptist Churches is an association of like-minded churches with whom they fellowship. The AARBC is a voluntary association of independent Baptist Churches that hold to the fundamentals of the faith and work together. They aim for a youthful congregation and their two Pastors, Swope and England, are both more youthful than many Baptist Pastors in the area. You can review their published articles of faith to have a better understanding of their beliefs, but they’re pretty traditional in everything except for the modernization of sermon and scripture reading.
Victory Lutheran Church – Focus on Spreading the Word
Does it feel like you have a desire or calling to help spread the word of God? Victory Lutheran Church in Mesa has a number of mission trips, online, in person, and drive-in services, and even has sermons they encourage their fellowship to repeat and spread to those who are interested and will listen. Having grown remarkably quickly, the church was founded in 1977 with a single mission: To serve and glorify God by being and making disciples for Jesus Christ through passionate prayer, inspirational worship, transforming study, humble service, spiritual relationships and joyful giving. For some 40 years, they’ve been doing just that and don’t appear to have any intent on slowing down!
Saint Luke Lutheran Church – Focus on Building Your Life & Faith
Saint Luke’s is an interesting contrast to the aforementioned Victory Lutheran Church. Where Victory places focus on trying to convert and spread the word of God, Saint Luke’s Lutheran church in Mesa seems to place focus on trying to make your relationship with God the best it can be. They openly welcome skeptics without trying to pressure or guilt trip anybody who would rather use their media page to try to build a relationship with God. Sermons are based around the fact that religion is complicated and faith is finicky and difficult to navigate at different stages in life. Their staff is composed of a slew of believers hitting a number of different age demographics. As far as Lutheran churches go, Saint Luke’s is a very understanding and welcoming one. They have an app for your smartphone if you’re hesitant about attending right away.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints – Largest Mormon Congregation in Mesa
LDS Church is a nontrinitarian, Christian church in Mesa that considers itself to be the restoration of the original church founded by Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon and the Bible are both held sacred and the church is separate from most of christianity as a result. This temple advertises that no matter your story, they welcome you to join them as everybody tries to be a little bit better, a little bit kinder, and a little more helpful because that’s what Jesus taught. The temple preaches life after death, life has meaning, and family is forever. The LDS Temple has a wonderful Easter pageant and an active Facebook page.
Palabra De Vida – Hispanic Christian Church (Word of God)
Palabra De Vida is a full Latin-American culture church, created and ran with the Spanish-speaking American in mind.
